According to the German fire brigade in Hamburg, it was just like a
joke, when a Ghanaian Bakery worker (dishwasher) in Hamburg died
yesterday through suffocation when he took a shortcut by using a very
short and small lift, measuring only 80cm high, which all of a sudden
came to a halt during the transportation. The mini/tiny elevator is
however meant (only) for the transportation of cooking utensils like
dishes and big bowls and other loads.
The 50 year old Ghanaian who
got stuck in the short and small tiny lift, took a shortcut by using
the said elevator only to be lifted from the basement of the Bakery
house to the kitchen on the ground floor.
At 16:36 yesterday his
colleagues called the fire brigade but very unfortunately before the
fire service arrived at the scene every help was too late for the
Ghanaian. The attempt by the Hamburger fire service to free the man took
over half an hour only for them to report the lifeless body of the
Ghanaian Bakery worker
.
When the firefighters pick the man
from the elevator, he was longer conscious and stopped breathing.
Revival attempts remained unsuccessful.
The Managing Director of
the Company, Thorsten Knoop said, "I am deeply shocked and all of my
colleagues too are also shocked. Of course, the small elevator is not
suitable for transporting people. It is only 80 centimetres high."
