Court jails man for assaulting police officer

An Abuja Upper Area Court on Friday sentenced one Nafiu Nabala of Federal Housing Estate Nyanya to two weeks imprisonment for assaulting a police officer after disobeying traffic rules.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, gave the convict an option to N 2, 000 as fine.
Prosecutor Silas Nanpam told the court that the accused assaulted a constable attached to Nyanya Division, who was on duty at IBB Pump Abuja on October 10.
Silas said the accused disobeyed traffic law by following one-way and hit the constable with a heavy stone after he was stopped.
He said the action of the convict amounted to criminal force and assault, offences contrary to Section 265 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and the judge convicted him accordingly.
