Governor Obi Seek Fund For APGA Guber Candidate
Ahead of the gubernatorial election in
Anambra State, scheduled for 16th of next month, Governor Peter Obi is
reportedly lobbying members of the State Assembly to approve the
whopping sum of N60 billion for him to execute some projects in the
state.
We learned from the sources at the State Assembly that the governor's
latest request may not be unconnected to his desire to impose his bosom
friend and APGA flag bearer, Mr. Willy Obiano, as governor in the
forthcoming election.
One of them questioned: “the governor is leaving office in less than
four months and the governorship election is in one month, what does he,
therefore, seek N60 billion for? We hope our treasury will not be
totally emptied and our state grossly indebted at the end of Gov. Obi's
administration?”
We were told that many members of the State Assembly also wondered what
their now lavish-spending governor needed the money for, since N110
billion had earlier been approved for this year's projects.
It may be recalled that the governor had lately suddenly begun to spend
huge sums of money, put at a little over N50 billion by one of our
sources at the State Assembly, on gifts and donations to various
communities, churches and organisations within the state.
Our sources believe the huge donations were to bribe the various
beneficiaries ahead of the November 16 election.
Also revealed to us by one of his former allies was the fact that Obi
had vowed to do everything possible to secure Aso Rock's favour to
become the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF,
shortly after his tenure in March 2014.
Already, his foot soldiers are strategizing on how to tar-brush the
current SGF, Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim, who is widely perceived by the
Presidency and many Nigerians to be doing well at his job.
Given his relationship with some influential hawks at Aso Rock and the
huge financial resources at the governor's disposal, it is doubtful if
Mr. Anyim will not be replaced by Obi in the middle or latter part of
2014, the source told us.
