Plateau State Government late Wednesday confirmed the death of pioneer civilian governor of the state, Chief Solomon Lar.
Aged 80, Lar, also pioneer National Chairman of the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) died in the United States of America today, after
a protracted ailment, the state government said.
Governor Jonah Jang’s Chief Press Secretary, James Mannok, confirmed
to reporters that his boss has been informed of the death. A statement
is to follow, Mannok promised.
There had been reports early in the week that the octogenarian passed
on, but was swiftly countered by another by the state government that
he was on life support.
Charismatic, Lar was elected governor in October 1979, and re-elected
in 1983. On both occasions, he flew the flag of the defunct Nigeria
Peoples Party (NPP).
